Brother Jackson gave National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Hall of Fame rider Ken Wold the fence run he’d been chasing throughout his career.
Their 227-point ride in the $50,000-added CD Survivor Memorial Open Bridle Spectacular also brought down the house – the crowd was hooting, hollering and banging their seats as the run ended.
“To have it come together like this, it’s my whole dream,” Wold said after Friday night’s event, fielding congratulations while sitting atop the stallion. “I’ve trained cow horses, cutting horses, reining horses – made the finals at all the futurities – but in the back of my mind I loved the fence work and I thought, ‘If I could ever have that run, someday, where everything worked.’
“And I had it today, and the Lord blessed me to be able to enjoy it.”
The victory by the 2009 stallion (Peptoboonsmal x Shes Icing Onthe Cat x High Brow Cat) earned $23,400 for owner Dan Perez. Brother Jackson now has an Equi-Stat record of $144,070.
Perez, of Westley, California, was excited Brother Jackson got the job done with Wold, whom he’s been working with for roughly 15 years.
“I’m always nervous and we didn’t have the best reining run, so we knew we were up against it,” Perez said. “The horse’s capable of marking well and he did tonight. We’re very, very pleased to be part of this.”
The Reserve Championship went to Phillip Ralls and One Fine Vintage. The 2009 stallion (One Time Pepto x Shiners Siena x Shining Spark) marked a composite score of 656.5 (218 herd/219.5 rein/219 cow). They earned $18,720 for owner Robertson Ranches.
